WHEN YOU NEED TO CONTROL
SOMEONE DIFFICULT
This technique is extremely useful in a
broad range of situations when you need
to exert a little control on someone whose
behavior is not what it should be towards
you - for instance, with a difficult boss
or unpleasant co-worker, or if you are in
a dispute over a contract of some sort.
Placing someone's name in your shoe is not
limited to controlling someone whose behavior
is bad, however. For example, I always advise
candidates for a job or those who are applying
for a bank loan to wear the name of the
person interviewing them in their shoe as
well.
Here is how this is done:
1) Write their full name on a piece of brown
paper bag that you have torn neatly on all
four sides to form a square or a rectangle.
This need not be large.
2) Place their name into your left shoe,
either between your foot and the shoe or under
the inner lining of the shoe.
3) When speaking with that person, whether
in person or on the telephone, and whenever
you are in their company, remember to tap
your left foot. Tapping your foot on their
name exerts subtle but distinct dominance
over them and will help you to master difficulties
they may present. It literally places them
'under your feet'.
Remember, you catch more flies with honey
than with vinegar - be cordial and sociable
whenever possible; this makes everything
work more smoothly. You will realize the
most benefit and will come furthest with
this approach in most cases.
